Priocca
Overview
Priocca is a small town in the province of Cuneo, lying between the Borbore and Tanaro, straddling both river valleys. It was first inhabited by the ‘ligurim’, who settled all around these hills in prehistoric times. The Gothic-revival parish church of San Michele, the patron saint of the Longobards, is the main highlight.
Speciality food
The iconic ‘plin’ – stuffed fresh pasta ravioli, ‘pinched’ closed into their particular shape – are a signature dish from Priocca and Piedmont. Usually cooked in broth, and served ‘au naturel’ to enhance their meat or vegetable filling, they pair perfectly with a rich Barolo wine.
Magenta
Overview
Magenta is a town near Milan, Lombardy. It played a major role early on in the unification of Italy, and it is still remembered for being the site of the crucial battle of June 4, 1859.
The Basilica of San Martino, built in the Baroque and Renaissance styles, is the major Catholic place of worship.
The market, established by Emperor Henry VII in 1787, is part of the heritage of the city. Traditional culinary specialties include tagliatelle con la lingua, saffron or mushroom risotto, and hearty beef dishes (spezzatino, brasato, stracotto), paired with natural local wines, rich and fresh, that fully exhibit their terroir.
