Huub Artz wins Stage 7 of the Giro Next Gen 2024

15/06/2024

Huub Artz (Wanty-Re Uz-Technord) has won Stage 7 of the Giro Next Gen Carta Giovani Nazionale, the 182km long Montegrotto Terme-Zocca. Callum Thornley (Trinity Racing) and Samuele Privitera (Hagens Berman Jayco) finished second and third respectively.

Jarno Widar (Lotto Dstny Development Team) retains the Maglia Rosa.

Speaking seconds after the finish, the stage winner Huub Artz said: “I’m very happy with this victory. I can’t believe it. Firstly I came to the Giro NextGen for GC but I wasn’t feeling good in the first days. However I saw a possibility to still do something good in the race. I felt strong yesterday. Today was a stage that suited me. I crashed in the first descent but I didn’t give up. In the final climb I wanted to wait till the steepest part with 2km to go. But I felt my group was going too slow. So I was a bit stressed and I attacked. Then I was feeling my legs and I wanted to go solo before the 2km to go. I showed some very good things already this year but even though I have my contract for the next two years I wanted to show myself in the u23 category. I’m happy today to show that I’m worth my pro contract. It’s been very hard racing all week and very fast up the hills”.
