For years, RCS Sport with the Giro d’Italia and other cycling events has been committed to the important issues of sustainability with the RIDE GREEN project, the initiative born in 2016 to reduce the effects of the passage of the Pink Race on the territory, through the proper management of the waste streams product.
With the help of volunteers and numerous local companies, also coordinated by the ERICA cooperative, the waste produced in the various locations is collected in special ecological islands positioned at strategic points, and subsequently sent for recycling to be put back into the production cycle.
Ride Green, as well as BiciScuola, the educational project that aims to introduce young people to the values and the culture of cycling, also dealing with the topics of wellness, environmental and road education, and Giro-E with its focus on sustainable mobility are part of R-Intents, the RCS Sports & Events project with NATIVA (Regenerative Design Company) that aims to analyse the main impacts of sports events and to establish a dialogue and comparison with the entire ecosystem in order to identify shared solutions that can guide the evolution of event design towards an increasingly regenerative paradigm.

Le attività svolte con Ride Green
Recycling of collected waste
With support from local businesses, we will make sure that all the waste collected and sorted is sent for recycling, to be transformed into secondary raw material.
Upcycle
We will launch socially relevant second-life projects for materials that would otherwise end up in landfill.
Performance measurement
We will measure our performance to do better in the future. How much waste are we producing at each stage? How much waste are we sorting? How much waste could we reduce in the following editions?
Awareness and communication
Our project has the ambition to share culture and promote green thinking by working with the audience, the public administrations, the staff, the sponsors and the athletes.
Environment
The project will also attempt to raise awareness among spectators against littering, with a support service for those waiting for the riders made using bicycles, and hence zero-impact. Bikes thus become a symbol of sustainable mobility, as well as a means for collecting and separating litter.
